By 10, the aspiring tennis player enrolled in the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France run by Patrick Mouratoglou, long-time coach of Serena Williams, and she would win the USTA Clay Court National 12-and-under title at the age of 10 years and three months, becoming the youngest champion in the tournament’s history.
After continuing to hone her talent on the ITF Junior Circuit, Gauff made her junior Grand Slam debut at the 2017 US Open and made it through to the final without dropping a set only to fall to Amanda Anisimova in the decider.

Gauff claimed a whopping $4,805,000 in prize money after her victory against the Chinese player. After triumphing in Riyadh, she led their head-to-head 2-0. The American then beat Zheng in Rome in 2025, thereby improving to 3-0 in their matchups.

Coco Gauff defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final of the WTA Finals in Riyadh en route to a first title at the year-end event.
The American player was 0-2 in 2024 against the Belarusian going into the last-four match at the Finals, but she played commendably to notch her first success against the top-ranked player since the 2023 US Open final.
Gauff’s success against Sabalenka put the American player ahead in their head-to-head (5-4), though the world No. 1 levelled by beating the youngster in the Rome final.
