Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts after Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League exit.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has criticized Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, labeling him “lazy” for his role in Paris Saint-Germain’s goal in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie.
Rooney analyzed the goal, insisting that Van Dijk’s lack of effort created a massive gap for Ousmane Dembele to exploit.
Dembele scored the only goal of the match, which ended 1-1 on aggregate, with PSG ultimately winning on penalties.

Mohamed Salah’s case to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or has taken a huge blow after Liverpool’s early UCL exit.
The former United striker told Amazon Prime, “This goal from Liverpool’s point of view is wrong in so many different ways. They are trying to press the ball and van Dijk gets lazy.
“If you keep your eyes on van Dijk here, he is walking. He leaves a massive gap for Dembele.
“All he has to do is come across to Dembele because there is no other pass for Paris to get out but he doesn’t.

Now Dembele has got a lot of space. And Konate again, he doesn’t switch on, Dembele makes a good run and it’s a tap in.”
The Reds went on to lose on penalties and that goal was a key moment in the game. Perhaps Van Dijk should have been more alert to the danger, but now he gets to look on with regret.
