Who are the two players Jurgen Klopp regrets not signing?
As reported by the Mirror, Klopp, while at a football community event in Cape Town, South Africa, stated that he had the opportunity to sign two important players who are now making waves in the Premier League while he was at Dortmund.
Who are the two players in question? – Tottenham Hotspurs captain Son Heung-min and Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
He said: “I could’ve signed Son from Tottenham. At that time, he was at Hamburg. I don’t even remember why [the signing didn’t happen] and just facing him in the Premier League, I thought ‘My God, you dumb [for not signing him].’ It’s crazy.”
“Kevin De Bruyne was that close [Klopp places his fingers around 1cm apart]. Then he smashed us in the cup final with Wolfsburg, so that was a double minus.”
Both Son and De Bruyne have gone on to become Premier League legends at both Tottenham and Manchester City, respectively.
The German tactician who has now taken up the Global Sports Director role with the Red Bull Group, owners of Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York clubs, said he also missed out on Sadio Mané while he was Dortmund’s coach, but he did right his wrong and signed the Senegalese for Liverpool.
