Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi could be stuck playing in the Championship for much longer than he would have hoped for
Leicester City’s already shaky road back to the Premier League has taken a turn for the worse after being hit with new financial misconduct charges.
Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi’s side, already relegated to the Championship, now faces the possibility of a points deduction next season.
Fresh charges deepen the crisis at the King Power
The Premier League announced on Tuesday that Leicester City have been charged with three serious breaches of the English Football League’s financial rules for the 2023/24 season.

These include accusations of violating profit and sustainability rules, failing to submit their annual accounts on time, and not cooperating adequately with league inquiries.
The timing could not be worse for Leicester, who will spend another season in the Championship after finishing 18th, and are now staring down the barrel of a possible points deduction, which could cripple any promotion bid before it even begins.

Although the club is now in the clear over previous charges from the 2022/23 season, these fresh allegations reignite uncertainty around the club’s financial conduct and future competitiveness.
Leicester’s promotion dream at risk
The Foxes had previously challenged the Premier League’s jurisdiction regarding earlier charges, arguing that they were a Championship club at the time.

An initial tribunal had sided with Leicester, but the League contested that ruling, only to see their challenge fall short.
While the club may have escaped the consequences of last season’s accusations, these new charges pertain to their time in the second tier, meaning the EFL could now act.
With Ndidi expected to play a key role in any potential comeback campaign, the latest legal battle threatens to overshadow Leicester’s preparations.
