Track legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce passed the torch to the next generation of Jamaican female sprinters as Tina Clayton won her first senior national title at the Jamaica championships.
The women’s 100m final at the Jamaican championships lived up to the hype as rising star Tina Clayton blazed to her first senior national title, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce also making the team to the World Championships in Tokyo.
With all eyes on the legendary Fraser-Pryce, considering it’s her last race on Jamaican soil, the sprint icon didn’t disappoint, giving her all to finish third in a Season’s Best (SB) of 10.91s and make her thirteenth Jamaican team to a major international championship.

Tina Clayton powering to her first senior national title at the Jamaica championships
Clayton, who clocked 10.93s, proved again why she’s in the best shape of her life by storming to another PB of 10.81s (0.1) to win the final. Unfortunately, her twin sister Tia Clayton who ran the fastest time of 10.86s in the semis and was favourite for the win, pulled up in the final and did not finish.
Shericka Jackson also clocked an impressive SB of 10.88s to finish second as the trio booked their spots on the Jamaican women’s 100m team to the world championships in Tokyo in September.
