Arsenal have been linked with a big-money move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with reports suggesting he could cost around £150 million. However, a former Arsenal midfielder does not think the Swedish forward is the right fit for the club.
Speaking to Goal in partnership with an online bookmaker, Anders Limpar shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s attacking needs.
Limpar believes Arsenal already have a strong squad but lack a true goal-scoring striker. He praised Isak’s talent but suggested that Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres would be better options.
“I think we have a complete team, from goalkeeper to midfield and creative players, but we don’t have a killer in front of goal,” Limpar said.
“To buy Isak will cost a lot. He is an amazing player and a great goal scorer. But I think we need someone like Watkins or Gyokeres because they offer more work rate. I love watching Alex play, but right now, we need a real finisher—someone like Gyokeres or an all-rounder like Watkins. Over the next few years, I would pick them instead of Isak.”

Limpar on Arsenal’s chances of spending big money on a new striker
The need for a striker has been a call many football fans and pundits have made whenever they talk about Arsenal’s title chances. However, many also believe that the Gunners have enough options and might not break the bank to fix the issue.

Limpar touched on this topic in his comments.
“The Premier League and Champions League are up for grabs, so why not spend big on a top striker?” he said.
“We have been unlucky with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, but they are both goal scorers. Right now, Arsenal should break the bank for one of the two I mentioned.”
Both Havertz and Jesus are currently injured, leaving Arsenal without a centre-forward for the rest of the season. The Gunners have been linked with Isak, Sesko, Jonathan David, and many more, but it remains to be seen if the team will address this role.
